PhD position in evolutionary ecology of social interactions in stickleback
The PhD project will involve collaboration in multiple seasons of fieldwork in Greenland, where we're studying 30 ecologically diverse populations of stickleback, as well as a large common garden experiment in Switzerland. Responsibilities will include intensive, methodical collection of behavioral, morphological, and genomic data, as well as routine animal care in and leadership over the experimental study. Statistical and genomic analyses will be led by the project supervisors, with ample opportunity for learning.

In cognitive science, it is common practice to use cognitive models to understand human thought processes – including human learning. Large language models create new opportunities for cognitive modeling. A human experiment showed that the optimized intervention that resulted from the digital-twin experiments indeed also improved human learning.

We welcome applications from researchers with a PhD in demography, statistics, sociology, economics, epidemiology, public health, or allied fields. Depending on background and interests, the successful candidate will work on a project aimed at understanding which factors are shaping the length of working life; and/or on projects in survival analysis and causal inference. The candidate will develop their own agenda within these project(s). We are seeking creative, self-driven, and collaborative scholars.
