The scientific quarterly Mountain Research and Development (MRD) is looking for one to two additional Editors-in-Chief to join the team. This role is pivotal in shaping MRD’s global strategic position as an independent, not-for-profit peer-reviewed journal and its mission to advance transformative knowledge for sustainable mountain futures.

PhD position on Hydrological storylines and transboundary water cooperation
Within this PhD project, you will quantify water availability and demand under current and future climate conditions, identify situations that might challenge water cooperation, and propose and evaluate suitable adaptation options. To do so, you will run a hydrological model with different storylines, climate scenarios, and adaptation options and closely collaborate with stakeholders and you will provide data and expertise to project partners across the NCCR CLIM+. You will be part of the NCCR CLIM+ programme and benefit from its extensive exchange and training in inter- and transdisciplinary research. You will publish your results in scientific journals and present them at national and international conferences.

A PhD position in Human Geography, investigating how discourses around land rent shape (un)sustainable urban futures in Switzerland and in the Netherlands
As a successful candidate, you will be part of the international research project “Follow the money! REconstructing Belief systems behind Urban Intensification and Land-rent Distribution (REBUILD)”, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Focusing on case studies in Switzerland and in the Netherlands, the project aims to better understand urban densification as a contested process of land-rent creation and redistribution, exposing tensions between actors, values, discourses, and representations.

Sie bauen die neue Forschungsgruppe “Sozial-ökologische Transformation” auf und leiten diese wissenschaftlich und administrativ. Sie forschen zum Themenbereich sozial-ökologische Transformation in Bezug auf WSL-Kernthemen sowie auf Schwerpunktthemen der WSL-Strategie 2035. Je nach Themenstellung arbeiten Sie inter- und transdisziplinär mit Kollegen und Kolleginnen aus den Sozial- und Naturwissenschaften und aus der Praxis.
