The scientific quarterly Mountain Research and Development (MRD) is looking for one to two additional Editors-in-Chief to join the team. This role is pivotal in shaping MRD’s global strategic position as an independent, not-for-profit peer-reviewed journal and its mission to advance transformative knowledge for sustainable mountain futures.

University of Michigan’s School for Environment and Sustainability invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship to investigate risk perception and adaptation behavior regarding climate change and natural hazards, specifically novel wildfires. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary working group of faculty, students, and postdocs studying human and ecosystem adaptation to wildfire risk using an integrated social-environmental system framework. The fellow will assist with a research project involving statistical and spatial analysis of survey data, culminating in scholarly outputs and practical policy recommendations. 

The postdoc will report to and work under the mentorship of Dr. Paige Fischer (School for Environment and Sustainability) and a team of other faculty members engaged with the research through the Western Forest and Fire Initiative.

This position will be a one-year, full-time, term-limited appointment. The start date is flexible.

The Department of Prehistoric Archaeology (PA) at the Institute of Archaeological Sciences (IAW), associated with the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research (OCCR) at the University of Bern, Switzerland, is searching for an outstanding and motivated prehistoric archaeologist with interest and experience in Climate Archaeology. The NOMIS Foundation–ETH Fellowship Programme supports postdoctoral researchers at ETH Zurich within the Centre for Origin and Prevalence of Life (COPL). The programme is intended to foster the development of young interdisciplinary researchers in the field of the origin and prevalence of life who have demonstrated scientific excellence in the early stages of their careers, and to enable the conditions necessary to conduct interdisciplinary, fundamental and high-risk research with some level of independence and autonomy.

The main responsibilities of the Early PostDoc are:

• Research about drought management and water conflicts in agriculture and between different sectors, focusing on user and protection conflicts under climate extremes in general, high and low waters in particular.

• Interest to work on Swiss case studies and to apply different methods in social science research (e.g., social network analysis, content analysis, process tracing)

• Willingness to collaborate across disciplines (typically political science, justice, ethics and sustainability transitions) and workpackages (impact studies, agricultural sciences, and hydrology)

Starting Date: 01 December 2026

This PhD project is part of Workpackage 3 of NCCR CLIM+, which concentrates on questions of governance and justice around the regulation of climate extremes (such as droughts, floods, heatwaves, and heavy precipitation amongst others). The successful candidate will complete a PhD thesis at the interface of law and political science. Specifically, the thesis will investigate under what conditions law and politics recognize and define an event as 'extreme' and what this means for resulting goveranance responses and questions of justice.
